Why I am Choosing Colour over Beige at Birre Home
Colour has always been something I’ve loved but not something I felt confident using in my own space.
For years, I stuck to safe, neutral choices. Beige, grey, pieces that would “work anywhere.” And while there’s absolutely a place for that, it never quite reflected the warmth, personality, and joy I wanted my home to have… or what I now want Birre Home to represent.
When I first opened Birre Home, I really did try to cater to everyone. Don’t get me wrong, beige and grey have a place and are a great base for some really beautiful styles. But as I move forward, I know I can’t compete with bigger retailers in this space.
So while there will always be pieces for our neutral lovers, my focus is shifting, towards more thoughtful, design-led pieces that bring colour, joy, and a sense of individuality into your home, with quality and ethical choices front of mind.
So, Birre Home is slowly evolving into a space that celebrates Colour.
Here’s why:
It brings joy
Colour has a way of instantly lifting a space. It can reflect your personality and make a home feel more you. And it doesn’t have to mean bright and bold, softer, more muted tones can bring just as much joy, depending on how you want a room to feel.
There’s a feeling behind colour
Colour isn’t just about how something looks, it’s about how it makes you feel. Yellow can feel happy and uplifting, blue calm and relaxing, red warm and romantic and green is grounded and connects with nature. When you start to think about colour this way, styling your home becomes a lot more intuitive.
It creates a point of difference
There are a lot of homewares and gift stores out there, and naturally, there will always be some overlap in products. But what I want Birre Home to be known for is how those pieces come together, a space that feels warm, welcoming, and a little bit unexpected. A place where your favourite brands sit alongside something quirky or unique… all curated to make you smile.
At the end of the day, this shift towards colour isn’t about following trends it’s about creating a space that feels good to be in. A home that reflects your personality, brings a little joy to the everyday, feels layered, lived-in, and uniquely yours.
And that’s exactly what I want Birre Home to help you create, whether you’re starting small with a cushion or going all in on colour.
